Instrument: Viola

What inspired you to join the FSO?
I love to play and perform. I couldn't not join. I auditioned on both violin and viola and played 1 season 2d stand, 1st violin. I switched to viola when several of the viola regulars moved away. Now I'm the only regular.

How many years have you been performing with the FSO?
Since the 2005-06 season, so this is my 11th season.

Who is/are your favorite composer(s)?
Beethoven, Brahms, Respighi, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Bruch, Bloch, Berlioz, Bizet, Fauré, Manuel de Falla, Rowel

How many instruments do you play?
Violin, viola, Japanese koto. Years ago, but I still can play flute and Japanese Shamisen.

What do you do when you're not rehearsing or performing?
I'm a history professor, I teach violin and viola, I knit, swim, hike, and write.

Advice to aspiring musicians?
Practice, produce a tone quality you enjoy, have fun, play what you like and practice even more to play what you love and what you wish you could.

Fun fact:
I have permanent residence, family and friends in Japan, where I spend every summer. Technically, I've lived there since 1975.
