Mission & History

The mission of the Florence Symphony Orchestra is to entertain, to educate and to broaden the cultural horizons of the citizens of Florence and the surrounding area of the Pee Dee region. The Florence Symphony Orchestra was born in the spring of 1949. Originally, a group of music enthusiasts came together to form a local band for their own pleasure and for that of the community. However, the first audition call brought in more string players than winds. It was decided that the band concept would be changed to compliment the talents Florence had to offer and an orchestra was born.
